* Wonderful news for Portland’s indie music lovers: we’re getting a new, commercial-free radio station, KZME 91.1 FM. Sample their sound in a ZSpot podcast. Watch some vids. Follow their twitter feed. Become members like us and get mentioned *in* their twitter feed!
* Be good to the city rocking your iPod: subscribe to Portland’s own Yeti Magazine.
* I’ve had Jared Mees & The Grown Children‘s Tallest Building in Hell stuck in my head for a week. Thanks, KZME…
* More gleanings of KZME’s tweets: Olympia, WA’s Redbird Fever. “Let’s dance to the beat of our last fight.” Yes!
* Portland’s Pierced Arrows rock it low-fi.
* ‘Can’t find much about Madrid’s Secret Society. Here’s what their label has to say:
“THE SECRET SOCIETY is a band from Madrid that has released three EP’s, has several songs in different compilations and has played with Songs:Ohia, Magnolia Electric Co., Xiu Xiu, Stacey Earle, Last Days of April or Mark Eitzel. The album of Pepo Marquez’s project, a not-so-typical singersongwriter influenced by the hardcore scene and the early nineties emo, it’s a collection of lo-fi confessions with a big load of emotions, that could be place near of Will Oldham, Joy Division or Elliott Smith.” Oh lard, I think I just found Matt’s fav new band…
* So! The new Citay album. Too precious?
* I have to promote psychobilly rockers Angry Johnny and The Killbillies, just ’cause of their awesome name.
* Via WFMU, dig Japanese experimental prog/punk rockers The Boredoms. Mmm, J-punk…
* More Japanese noise psych garage punk rock: Acid Eater.
* More punk, more, more: Toronto’s ****ed Up seem loud and angry. That’ll do.
* Two turntables and an.. orchestra??
* How is Nunavut throat singer Tanya Tagaq doing that??
* 2008 concerts I missed: The Elephant 6 Orchestra. Have a good week, folks!
